Los Angeles, CA – [March 3, 2025] — The North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) is proud to announce it has been awarded a Port of Los Angeles Community Investment Grant to support the development and dissemination of an Educator’s Guide to Offshore Wind—a cutting-edge educational resource designed to bring the future of clean energy into today’s classrooms.
Through the generous support of the Port of Los Angeles, NAMEPA is creating a K-12 curriculum-aligned guide that will help educators introduce students to the science, technology, and career opportunities associated with offshore wind energy. This initiative reflects both organizations’ shared commitment to fostering environmental stewardship, workforce development, and maritime industry awareness.
Building on NAMEPA’s long-standing history of developing marine environmental and industry-focused educational materials, the Offshore Wind Guide will include standards-based lesson plans that explore the environmental benefits, technological advancements, and workforce potential of offshore wind development. It will also underscore the Port of Los Angeles’ leadership in promoting renewable energy and port sustainability.
This guide will be available both digitally and in print, ensuring broad access for educators, students, and community organizations across California and beyond. Supplementary presentations, classroom engagements, and pre/post-learning surveys will further enhance the program’s reach and measurable impact.
Locally, NAMEPA has been actively engaged in Los Angeles for over five years and is a founding member of the LA STEM Collective. In 2023 alone, NAMEPA’s education resources reached more than 24,000 individuals, reinforcing its dedication to preparing the next generation of maritime and environmental leaders.
The Educator’s Guide to Offshore Wind will be unveiled this summer at the National Marine Educators Association Conference in Lafayette, Louisiana, and distributed to educators across the region beginning in July. NAMEPA will also showcase the program at its Annual Conference and Marine Environment Protection Awards, highlighting its significance in maritime education and community outreach.
