Captain Amy Arrowood: Captain Amy Arrowood, named one of Marine Log’s Top Women in Maritime in 2023, is the Director of the Maritime Credit Programs at San Jacinto College’s Maritime Campus. She provides leadership for Texas’s only Associate of Applied Science degree in Maritime Transportation and is a U.S. Coast Guard–approved instructor for more than 40 courses. Captain Arrowood brings over 25 years of maritime industry experience, having sailed aboard U.S.-flagged vessels both coastwise and internationally, served as a Port Captain and Operations Manager, and completed 3 years active duty as a commissioned officer in the United States Coast Guard, where she was awarded the Coast Guard Commendation Medal. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University at Galveston and holds multiple professional licenses, including Second Mate Unlimited Tonnage and Master 1600 Tons.
Benton Lobo:Benton currently serves as the VP of Maritime Compliance and Designated Person Ashore (DPA) at Carnival Cruise Line, ensuring that all maritime activities comply with the company’s safety management system (SMS) and International Safety Management (ISM) protocols. Since joining Carnival Cruise Line in 2006, he has worked on 11 different ships in various positions, as well as in shoreside roles. Beginning his career as a shipboard Engine Environmental Supervisor, his environmental engineering background and passion for global compliance has been instrumental in his career progression, as he’s advanced through roles such as Assistant Housekeeping Manager, Environmental and Occupational Safety Officer, Traveling Environmental Superintendent, Environmental Manager, Director of Environmental Compliance, and Environmental Compliance Plan ECP Operating Line Compliance Manager, to his role today. Through continuous professional growth and active mentorship, he aims to inspire and develop future industry leaders, while playing a pivotal role in ensuring that Carnival Cruise Line remains at the forefront of the cruise industry, renowned for its commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and unparalleled guest experiences.
Captain Clint Winegar: Captain Clint Winegar, Presiding Officer of the Houston Pilots since 2023, is a graduate of Texas A&M at Galveston with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation. Previously he held the position of Second Officer of the Houston Pilots (2014-2015 and 2022). In addition, he serves as Vice President of the American Pilots Association representing the Gulf States of Texas, Alabama, and Mississippi.
Prior to becoming a Pilot, he sailed on Product and Chemical Tankers moving cargo around the world for nearly 10 years. Since 2005, he has been licensed as a State Pilot on the Houston Ship Channel, logging over 2700 jobs and 12,000 bridge hours.
Currently serving on the Board of Directors for Economic Alliance Port Region, Greater Houston Port Bureau, Houston Maritime Museum and Center and Houston International Seafarers Center. Also, active member of East End Chamber of Commerce.
Carleen Lyden Walker: Carleen Lyden Walker is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of NAMEPA (North American Marine Environment Protection Association) leveraging off her experience as a marketing and communications professional in the commercial maritime industry with over 40 years of experience. She specializes in identifying, developing and implementing strategic marketing and communications programs that increase the visibility and effectiveness of NAMEPA as well as the development of educational resources promoting marine environment protection. She works to develop strategic alliances between industry, regulators, conservation groups and educators to “Save Our Seas”.
In 2015, Ms. Lyden Walker was appointed an Ambassador by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). She is a member of WISTA (Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association), the Connecticut Maritime Association, the Marine Society of the City of New York, The National Press Club, WIMAC (Women in Maritime Association, Caribbean) and is a Past-President of the Propeller Club Chapter of the Port of NY/NJ. She was also elected to the Board of Trustees of the Coast Guard Foundation, the Tall Ships America Foundation, New York Harbor Foundation and the New Era Academy Transportation Technologies Program in Baltimore. She was recently named one of the top 100 women in shipping globally. Ms. Lyden Walker is also Chief Executive Officer of Morgan Marketing & Communications, is Chief Evolution Officer of SHIPPINGInsight, Founder of CARIBMEPA and the Co-Founder/Executive Director of the Consortium for International Maritime Heritage. In 2010, she was awarded the Certificate of Merit by the United States Coast Guard and in 2014 a Public Service Commendation for her work on World Maritime Day and AMVER, respectively. Ms. Lyden Walker graduated from Wellesley College with a BA in Political Science and History (minor in Economics), studied Accounting at Cornell School of Business Administration and is a trained facilitator and media trainer. She held a USCG Captain’s license.
Darren Shelton: Darren Shelton currently serves as Director of Sales for Moran Shipping Agencies.
Previously, he managed offices in the US Gulf before leading Moran’s Quality Systems and Voyage Data teams. With nearly 30 years of experience in the maritime industry, he’s a frequent speaker at shipping, energy and startup conferences. Darren is Chairman Emeritus of the Lone Star Harbor Safety Committee which represents 800+ stakeholders on Texas ship channels, received a commendation from the United States Coast Guard for his leadership, in addition to being recognized on the floors of the Texas Senate and House of Representatives for service to his community. He is an ambassador for Informa Markets’ Seatrade Maritime Club and Eyesea.
In 2018 he envisioned a blockchain startup for the energy sector which led to his co-founding FuelTrust, an AI driven software company that follows commodities through their lifecycles for supply chain solutions.
Darren is an EMBA candidate at the University of East London, adding to his studies at Stephen F. Austin State University and an honorary degree from Alvin Community College where he also presently serves on their Board of Regents.
Eric Carrero: Captain Eric Carrero became President of the Greater Houston Port Bureau on July 1, 2023. He leads the 250+ company maritime business organization that supplies member companies detail vessel traffic information and maritime expertise in efficiency, safety, security, and environmental issues in the largest port by tonnage and the largest petrochemical facility in the United States.
CAPT Carrero served 26 years in the U.S. Coast Guard (“USCG”) and led the Waterways Management Division for the USCG’s Eighth District before retiring in May 2023. He is a certified Marine Safety Professional with numerous qualifications in marine pollution response, investigations and commercial vessel inspections. He was deployed to the historic responses to Hurricane Katrina, Haiti Earthquake and served as Operations Section Chief during Hurricane Harvey where he was responsible for all maritime transportation issues related to the successful Coast Guard response in Houston- Galveston.
His previous USCG operational assignments included: Marine Safety Office/ Group Philadelphia; Marine Safety Office San Juan, PR, where he served as a Marine Casualty Investigator, Port State Control Inspector and Assistant Senior Investigating Officer; and Marine Safety Detachment Fort Smith, AR, where he served as the Supervisor responsible for all marine safety related issues, including domestic inspections, in the expansive western area of Arkansas and Oklahoma. He also served at USCG Atlantic Area, as a Port Security Liaison Officer where he conducted port security assessments in over 20 countries, evaluating the effectiveness of anti-terrorism measures, and enforced international port security regulations in South America, Africa and the Caribbean.
CAPT Carrero is a graduate from the University of Puerto Rico, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental Management and Policy from the American Public University System. His military awards include the Legion of Merit, four Meritorious Service Medal, a Coast Guard Commendation Medals, three Coast Guard Achievement Medals, a Commandant’s Letter of Commendation, and multiple unit and operational awards.
Guillermo Calderon: Guillermo Calderon is currently Manager of Business Development at ABS, where he leads marine market initiatives across North America, particularly the U.S. Gulf Coast and Mexico, supporting growth in offshore energy and U.S. shipbuilding. With more than 18 years of international experience in the marine and offshore industries, Guillermo brings deep expertise in classification, regulatory compliance, and a strong focus on new technologies and innovation. He has been actively involved in new construction and technology programs across the U.S., including projects advancing next-generation offshore support and installation vessels.
Prior to his current role, Guillermo held leadership positions within ABS’s Global Engineering organization, with strategic assignments in Rio de Janeiro, Houston, Singapore, Copenhagen, and London, contributing to projects spanning LNG, offshore wind, and alternative fuels. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering, and an Executive MBA from the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford, where he also earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Strategy and Innovation.
Jan-Willem van den Dijssel: Jan-Willem van den Dijssel is an accomplished business leader with over 25 years’ experience in the grain trading and maritime industry. In his current role, Jan-Willem is responsible for Cargill’s Ocean Transportation business across the Americas.
Jan-Willem studied Finance and Accounting at Glasgow University and graduated with an MSc in Business degree from Groningen University in the Netherlands.
He joined Cargill in 1996 as a grain trader in Chile and successfully held grain trading roles in Cargill’s headquarters in Minneapolis and Miami. In 2004, Jan-Willem moved to the Panamax desk of Cargill Ocean Transportation in Geneva, Switzerland before he became manager of the Americas Handy trading desk.
In 2011, Jan-Willem joined the New Jersey office as Americas Commercial Manager and was promoted to Americas Lead in 2014. He moved the Ocean Transportation team to Miami in 2021.
Jan-Willem was named as Cargill’s board representative of the North American Marine Environment Protection Association in 2018. He joined Executive Advisory Board at SUNY Maritime College as well as The Seamen’s Church Institute Board of Trustees in 2024. He has arranged Cargill’s lead sponsorship and completed all 6 SCI Mountain Challenge events in support of mariners.
Joe Hughes: Joe has served as chairman of the managers of the American Club, an International Group mutual, for nearly thirty-one years. Joe also oversees the activities of Eagle Ocean Agencies, Inc., an affiliate of SCB, which operates the Eagle Ocean Marine and Eagle Ocean America insurance facilities. In addition, he is a director of both the American Club itself and its European subsidiary in Cyprus. In addition to his chairmanship of NAMEPA, Joe is a director (and twice President) of the Maritime Association of the Port of New York and New Jersey, a director of NYMAR and also sits on committees of the American Bureau of Shipping and Lloyd’s Register of Shipping.
Keith Letourneau: Keith’s government contract experience includes shipyard bid protests, labor standards disputes, and appeals of contracting officers’ final decisions before boards of contract, as well as solicitation and bid reviews and evaluations. He has also defended document-intensive shipyard and oil rig repair contract disputes.
He is co-chair of the firm’s Blockchain Working Group. He has published recent articles about the industry, specifically as it relates to maritime matters, and presented on Blockchain issues at the firm’s Litigation Department CLE program in Philadelphia in November 2017.
Keith served as a trial attorney for both the U.S. Coast Guard’s Procurement Law Division and the Admiralty Section of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Division. He is a retired commander of the U.S. Coast Guard. His military service included assignments as a deck watch officer aboard a medium-endurance cutter that engaged in drug law enforcement efforts in the Caribbean Basin and as commanding officer of a Coast Guard patrol boat stationed along the southeast Texas coast.
Keith is a member of the Order of the Coif, an honorary academic society that recognizes law students, teachers, judges, and lawyers for their scholarly or professional achievements.
Molly Dushay: Equipped with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Sacred Heart University, Molly has established herself as a dedicated science educator and maritime nonprofit leader. Her deep-rooted passion for marine and environmental science was sparked in her youth growing up on Long Island Sound. As Executive Director of the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA), Molly drives the organization’s strategic growth through enhanced membership engagement, strategic alliances, and innovative education and outreach initiatives. She collaborates closely with NAMEPA’s Board of Directors to lead strategic planning, business development, and operational excellence across the organization. In her role as Director of the Maritime Primary & Secondary Education Coalition (MPSEC), Molly leads national efforts to advance maritime education in K–12 schools through partnerships, curriculum development, and resource sharing. She spearheads mission-driven programs, grant-funded projects, and workforce development initiatives that engage students, educators, the public, and maritime professionals, bridging commerce and conservation while strengthening the future maritime workforce.
Marco Romero: Business Development Manager – Decarbonization Specialist, brings almost 20 years of experience to the Maritime industry. In his current role, he is focusing on decarbonization, alternative fuels, environmental compliance, energy efficiency, digital and new technologies within the Maritime industry. Marco began his career in the offshore, energy and drilling industries, where he became a global subject matter expert in subsea BOPs and led the DNV team on the certification of the new high pressure high temperature (20K) drilling systems. Marco also led global regulatory initiatives for marine drilling riser and chaired the API group on Diverter Systems. He has also served as Key Account Manager for major OEMs of Oil and Gas equipment, serving as a technical service manager as well as strategic growth planner.

Pip McCormick: Philippa “Pip” McCormick is an education leader and program strategist currently serving as Director of Education at the Houston Maritime Center and Museum in Houston, Texas. She brings over 15 years of experience spanning curriculum design, workforce-readiness initiatives, mentorship development, and professional training across public and international education settings.
In her role at the Houston Maritime Center and Museum, Pip leads the strategic development of maritime-focused educational initiatives that connect history, port operations, and industry pathways to learners of all ages. She is committed to expanding access, strengthening community partnerships, and designing inclusive, high-impact programming that reflects Houston’s maritime heritage and its critical role in global trade and the energy sector. Central to her vision is leveraging early education to inspire young hearts and minds to pursue pathways into maritime high schools, academies, credentialing programs, and ultimately long-term maritime careers.
With a lifelong connection to the upstream maritime industry and more than two decades as a maritime family head of household, Pip brings both professional expertise and lived experience to her leadership. A passionate sailor and advocate for maritime education, she is dedicated to preserving heritage while building structured, attainable career pipelines for the next generation.
Captain Robert Compher: Captain Compher assumed duties as Director of Inspections and Compliance at Coast Guard Headquarters in April 2025. In this position, he develops and maintains policy, standards, and program alignment for all prevention activities associated with the safe operation of vessels and facilities. The CG-5PC Directorate manages policy development and program oversight for the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, recreational boating safety, foreign and domestic commercial vessel compliance, international and domestic ports and facilities safety and security, vessel documentation, and marine casualty investigations.
Captain Compher previously served as the Coast Guard’s Chief Traveler, where he led a specialized staff of senior marine inspectors in providing professional commercial vessel knowledge, experience, and training to field commanders and commercial vessel inspectors to ensure safe, consistent application of requirements and to expand technical expertise throughout the Prevention program. Captain Compher’s previous staff assignments include Marine Safety Center Commanding Officer and Chief of the Office of Design and Engineering Standards (CG-ENG). He also served under U.S. Northern Command where he led contingency planning and exercises for Department of Defense Joint and Interagency Arctic, Homeland Defense, Support to Civil Authorities, and Theater Security Cooperation missions.
Captain Compher’s first assignment was aboard the Cutter DAUNTLESS in 1997. His operational tours include service as a Marine Inspector, Port Operations Officer, and Senior Investigating Officer at Marine Safety Unit Galveston. From 2009 to 2012, he served as Commanding Officer of Marine Safety Unit Lake Charles, leading the Coast Guard’s marine safety missions in the nation’s 11th largest port, and providing response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill for the parishes in Southwest Louisiana. He was assigned as Chief of Prevention at Coast Guard Sector Mobile from 2015 to 2018, where he was the Officer in Charge of Marine Inspections and oversaw commercial vessel inspections, investigations, waterways management, and aids to navigation in Mississippi, Alabama, and Northwest Florida.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Master of Science degrees from the University of Michigan in Naval Architecture and Industrial Engineering, and graduate degrees from the Naval War College and Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy. Captain Compher is a licensed Professional Engineer. Captain Compher is the recipient of the Defense and Coast Guard Meritorious Service Medals, Coast Guard Commendation Medal, Joint Service and Coast Guard Achievement Medals, and numerous other personal, unit, and service awards.
