Maritime Educator of the Year
The ASBA EF & NAMEPA Maritime Educator of the Year Award recognizes outstanding educators who are advancing students’ understanding of the commercial maritime industry and creating meaningful connections between education and maritime career pathways.
The Award celebrates educators who expose students to the skills, careers, operations, and opportunities that support the maritime industry and inspire the next generation of maritime professionals.
Award Categories
Three educators will be selected annually:
- Gold – Maritime Educator of the Year
- Silver – Maritime Educator Excellence Award
- Bronze – Maritime Educator Excellence Award
ASBA EF will select the three recipients from the five finalists recommended by NAMEPA and designate the Gold Award recipient. NAMEPA will designate the Silver and Bronze recipients from the remaining two awardees.
Nominations will be accepted from Monday, September 21st to December 31st, 2026.
Award recipients will be notified by March 1st, 2027. The Gold Award recipient will receive round-trip economy airfare and two nights of accommodations, valued up to $2,500, to attend NAMEPA’s national Maritime Week in Washington, D.C., in May 2027.
All three award recipients will also receive a framed certificate recognizing their achievement.

ABOUT ASBA EF
ASBA Educational Foundation’s Mission is to promote and support maritime education and develop maritime professionals through education, scholarships, internships and other associated purposes and activities.
Supporting the overall mission, goals may include:
- financial assistance to students pursing a maritime career;
- development and support of seminars and courses in maritime studies;
- partnerships with academic institutions in support of developing a curriculum that addresses the interconnectivity of domestic and international commerce, geopolitics and the business of shipping.
- Involvement with educational institutions and private sector industry in career development and job placements.
