This past month has been a powerful reminder of just how interconnected our maritime world truly is. I had the privilege of representing NAMEPA and our community at several critical global forums.
In London, I attended events with colleagues during London International Shipping Week at the International Maritime Organization, where discussions underscored the urgency of regulation, innovation, and resilience as we steer our industry into the future. From there, I traveled to Busan, Korea, to participate in the APEC SEN Seafarer Policy Conference, where seafarer welfare and workforce resilience were front and center
The conversations in Busan reinforced the truth that our people remain the heartbeat of maritime—and ensuring their wellbeing is vital to progress
I made a quick stop back to London at the IMO for World Maritime Day, which also marked the final gathering of the IMO Goodwill Ambassadors. It was a reminder of the global community’s collective responsibility to foster awareness, education, and action for a resilient maritime future.
I also had the honor of visiting Jamaica, where regional leaders are embracing maritime opportunity with vision and determination. Each stop reflected a shared commitment: to navigate disruption with courage, collaboration, and innovation.
Looking ahead, I’m excited for NAMEPA’s Annual Conference and Awards Dinner on October 30th at SUNY Maritime College, where we will gather to explore maritime’s transformation and celebrate leaders driving environmental stewardship, collaboration, and workforce development. This event offers an important opportunity to continue the conversations I’ve had across the globe—this time here at home, with our own community of maritime changemakers.
