LOS ANGELES, CA – (June 25, 2025) – The North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) is proud to announce the development of its newest educational resource, An Educator’s Guide to Offshore Wind, made possible through the generous support of the Port of Los Angeles Community Investment Grant Program. This guide is designed to provide K-12 educators with practical, real-world lesson plans that connect directly to classroom learning in science, technology, and environmental studies.
Offshore wind is a growing part of California’s renewable energy landscape, and this guide brings that topic into classrooms in an accessible and engaging way. Teachers will be able to build on what they’re already doing, such as lessons on weather, energy, ecosystems, or climate, by applying them to real-world examples of offshore wind technology and its impact on local communities. “This guide helps educators spark curiosity and make meaningful connections between the classroom and the world around them,” says Molly Dushay, Executive Director of NAMEPA.
“This resource gives teachers a way to bring today’s innovations into their classrooms,” said Carleen Lyden Walker, Co-Founder and CEO of NAMEPA. “By using relatable, real-world examples, students gain a better understanding of renewable energy and the important role ports like Los Angeles play in building a sustainable future.”
NAMEPA will recognize the Port at its Annual Conference and Awards Dinner, where the educator’s guide will be featured as a cornerstone education initiative for the year.
