WESTON, CT – October 8, 2024 — The North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) is holding its Annual Marine Environment Protection Conference and Awards Dinner, “Disruption & Opportunity in Maritime: Breaking Free from the Status Quo” on October 24th at the Westin in Times Square. Today’s maritime world is full of disruption and challenges. Inherent in that is opportunity to benefit in the change required to meet regulatory and societal expectations while breaking free from the status quo!
NAMEPA is proud to announce that Rear Admiral Wayne Arguin, Assistant Commandant for Prevention Policy for the United States Coast Guard will deliver the Opening Keynote Address on Innovation and Environmental Responsibility. Moderating the Geopolitical Forces in Maritime Panel is Jan Hagen Andersen, Business Development Director Maritime for DNV. He will be joined by Joan Bondareff, Senior Counsel for Blank Rome, who will discuss the “Maritime Policy Under Different Political Parties: Environmental Considerations”. Addressing “Global Threats to Shipping and Trade” will be presented by Jan-Willem van de Dijssel, Americas Lead at Cargill Inc.
Other confirmed panelist includes Ole Chr. Schroder, Director, Environmental Compliance at Scorpio Group who will be moderator for a panel discussing “Forging the Future: Integrating Talent, Resilience, Innovation and Investment in Maritime”. This panel will include Kai Martin, Chief Sustainability Officer for the Pasha Group who will present “Advancing Skills: Upskilling Today’s Mariner for Tomorrow Challenges”. Peter Hadjipateras, Chief Information, Security and Sustainability Officer from Dorian LPG will present on “Investing in Innovation and Change”, as well as NAMEPA’s own Executive Director Molly Dushay who will speak on “Future Mariners: Cultivating a Sustainable Workforce”.
The program will end with an Innovation Partnerships and Collaborations Leadership Roundtable, which will include Marine Environment Protection (MEP) Award Winners, Gary
Vogel, recipient of the Lifetime Achievement MEP Award, and San Jacinto College recipient of the Maritime Academies MEP Award.
Following the conference, NAMEPA will present its 2024 Marine Environment Protection Awards to the winners during a dinner highlighting the achievements of the winners.
During the dinner and awards program, NAMEPA and the American Salvage Association (ASA) will present the 12th Annual Marine Science Scholarship Competition Awards to recognize outstanding research by winners Vijay Shivnani of Texas and Christopher Kuhl of New York. These awards aim to highlight the importance of preserving the marine environment through sound environmental practices, raise awareness of marine salvage and engineering, and promote careers within the maritime industry and marine sciences.
