August 29, 2024 — The North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) is excited to announce the next installment of its regional initiative, hosted by Port Everglades. This event marks a pivotal moment in NAMEPA’s regional strategy, bringing together industry leaders, educators, and community stakeholders to foster collaboration and address the unique challenges faced by the maritime industry and marine environment in South Florida.
“Our regional gatherings are not just about meeting; they are about action,” said NAMEPA Executive Director, Molly Dushay. “By understanding and addressing the specific needs of each community, we aim to elevate the maritime industry’s role, inspire ocean protection, and build a sustainable future together.” NAMEPA’s regional initiatives are designed to amplify collaboration and awareness of the maritime industry while tackling critical challenges specific to each region. These gatherings serve as vital bridges, connecting industry experts, educators, and community members in a shared mission to promote sustainable maritime practices.
By fostering open dialogue and building trust, NAMEPA aims to drive collaborative action on key issues, including:
• Raising Maritime Awareness: Educating the public about the maritime industry’s critical role in the economy and environmental protection.
• Combating Marine Debris: Working together to reduce pollution and safeguard our marine ecosystems.
• Investing in Workforce Development: Cultivating a skilled and environmentally conscious maritime workforce for the future.
• Engaging in Public Outreach: Inspiring communities to actively protect our oceans.
Through these regional initiatives, NAMEPA unlocks access to valuable resources, including best practices, educational materials, and expert networks. This deeper engagement empowers local communities to address their specific challenges effectively, while NAMEPA tailors’ programs and campaigns to meet regional needs.
In 2024, NAMEPA launched its Regions Initiative to advance the maritime industry, marine environmental protection, and workforce development on a regional scale. The initiative kicked off in Houston in February, followed by a successful gathering in Washington D.C. in May, and most recently, the launch of the California Region in August. Now, NAMEPA is set to extend its impact to Florida, where the focus will be on addressing local priorities such as port sustainability, marine conservation, and workforce readiness.
This latest gathering at Port Everglades will offer a unique platform for exchanging insights and exploring collaborative solutions tailored to the needs of Florida’s maritime community. Participants will gain access to NAMEPA’s extensive network and resources, empowering them to drive meaningful change at the local level.
