July 24, 2024: The North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) announced it will examine “Disruption and Opportunity in Maritime” at its Annual Marine Environment Protection Conference being held in New York City on October 24th. The conference will be followed by NAMEPA’s Marine Environment Protection Awards Dinner recognizing signature achievements in 2024. Registration is now open for this in-person event.
“During this decade, our industry has experienced successive forces creating disruption to the shipping industry’s ability to deliver transportation services supporting the global economy,” stated NAMEPA’s Co-Founder/CEO Carleen Lyden Walker. “it is critical that we come together to evaluate both the threats and the opportunities this disruption creates.”
The conference will feature a dynamic panel discussion on the “Geopolitical Forces in Maritime: Navigating a Complex Landscape.” Diving into Maritime Policy under Different Political Parties, Geopolitical Impacts on Shipping, and Global Maritime Security Challenges, this panel will challenge traditional maritime policies and practices by exploring how the industry can adapt in response to geopolitical shifts and their impacts on the marine environment.
Other highlight discussions include “Forging the Future: Integrating Talent, Resilience, Innovation, and Investment in Maritime” specifically, Cultivating a Sustainable Workforce, Upskilling, Future-Proofing Maritime Infrastructure, and Redefining Waste and Resource Management. This discussion will focus on breaking free from traditional practices by integrating workforce innovation, operational resilience, circular economy principles, and green financing. Panelists will share strategies and real-world examples that drive sustainable transformation in the maritime industry and secure sustainability.
The conference will conclude with the Leadership Roundtable featuring Marine Environment Protection Award Winners in which they will discuss their motivations and perspectives on resolving some of today’s greatest challenges.
Following the afternoon conference, NAMEPA will host its Annual Marine Environment Protection Awards (MEP Awards) Dinner. This event honors the achievements of industry leaders, companies, organizations, and government agencies in their efforts to “Save Our Seas.” The MEP Awards are given in recognition of an individual or organization’s innovative and extraordinary effort to commit themselves to preserving the marine environment as exemplified by a commitment to programs which have specific objectives set for environmental performance and improvement.
