NAMEPA’s Sea Safety Series – Zero Point Four Webinar

The North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) continues to grow the agenda of speaker for the Safety at Sea Seminar and AMVER & Benkert Awards. Joining the distinguished roster of speakers for this event is RADM Jim Watson, USCG (Ret.) co-author of the incredible call to action “Zero Point Four – How US Leadership in Maritime Will Secure America’s Future” book, a groundbreaking collaborative narrative written by six maritime, ocean, and security experts and spearheaded by RADM Watson.

This book delves into the critical juncture where the United States, a pivotal maritime power, stands poised to lose its competitive edge. During World War II, the US boasted over half of the world’s ocean-going commercial vessels flying its flag. Today, that number has dropped to less than 0.4%. Less than half of a percent of the world’s vessels fly the US flag.

RADM Watson brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to this book. He has held the position of Senior VP of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Global Government Services, where he was responsible for the government market sector of ABS. Before working for ABS, RADM Watson served as Director of the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement at the US Department of Interior. He also served as the US Coast Guard’s Director of Prevention Policy for Marine Safety, Security and Stewardship, where his responsibilities included commercial vessel safety and security, ports and cargo safety and security and maritime investigations. He was designated as the Federal On-Scene Coordinator for the government-wide response to the Deepwater Horizon incident in the Gulf of Mexico.

Recently, RADM Watson, alongside some of the other co-authors of Zero Point Four, sat down with Meghan Reilly, for NAMEPA’s Sea Safety Series. An online seminar celebrating and discussing important safety aspects to the maritime industry. This discussion highlighted the importance of the maritime industry in national security and broke down the five principles in the book; National, Economic, Energy and Food, Climate, and Workforce Security. RADM Watson talked about the importance of this book and how this incredible book came to be, with co-author spanning the world.

For those eager to delve deeper into the insights offered by “Zero Point Four,” the book is readily accessible for purchase on Amazon.
