Marine Spill Response Corporation Awarded NAMEPA’s Maritime Sustainability Passport & Seal for Exemplary ESG Initiatives

WESTON, CT – March 12, 2024 – Carleen Lyden Walker, Co-Founder and CEO of the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) announced the awarding of its esteemed Maritime Sustainability Passport® Certificate and Seal to the Marine Spill Response Corporation (MSRC), in recognition of their steadfast commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance practices. This marks a significant milestone for MSRC in its dedication to sustainability within the maritime sector.

NAMEPA’s Maritime Sustainability Passport (MSP) Program, known for its rigorous evaluation based on it’s six Transparency Pillars – Waste Management, GHG Emissions, Education, Technology, Social, and Governance – has recognized MSRC for its compliance and proactive efforts in each area. This recognition reflects MSRC’s ongoing commitment to the marine environment, showcasing their comprehensive approach to sustainability and responsible business practices in the maritime industry.

MSRC, a provider of comprehensive oil spill response services for coastal and inland environments, plays a critical role in assisting shippers, exploration, and production (E&P) operators, refiners, midstream operators, rail, and offshore wind operators in meeting the planning criteria of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA 90). Their services are crucial for maintaining readiness and providing reliable oil spill response capabilities for their customers, including some of the largest private cargo owners globally, in their U.S. operations.

This achievement by MSRC underscores their commitment to promoting sustainability and implementing responsible practices across the maritime industry, setting a benchmark for others to follow. NAMEPA’s Maritime Sustainability Passport® Certificate and Seal not only recognizes MSRC’s efforts but also encourages continual improvement and innovation in ESG initiatives within the maritime domain.

The Maritime Sustainability Passport® (MSP) Program was developed by the North American Marine Environment Protection Association and ESGplus LLC  as an innovative ESG assessment tool tailored specifically for the maritime industry. Launched in June 2020, the tool enables companies, associations, educators, and individuals in the industry to evaluate their adherence to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles.
