NAMEPA Announces United States Coast Guard RDML (Select) Arex B. Avanni as Keynote Speaker at Maritime Operation Seminar  

Houston TX- February 19, 2024 – The North American Marine Environment Protection Association’s (NAMEPA) is proud to announce the keynote speaker for Maritime Operations Seminar – “Leaping into the Future: Challenges and Consequences” will be RDML (Select) Arex Avanni, currently Chief of Staff, Eighth Coast Guard District in New Orleans Louisiana. The event will be held on February 29th at the headquarters of the Houston Pilots. 

RDML (Select) Avanni serves as the District Commander’s primary advisor and coordinators the engagements of the District Staff and oversees Coast Guard safety, security, and stewardship missions from the outer shelf of Gulf of Mexico, throughout the Gulf coast to our nation’s border with Mexico. Before that, he was Commander, Coast Guard Sector Honolulu from 2019 to 2022.  

“We look forward to hosting RDML (Sel.) Avanni at our event at the end of the month,” stated Carleen Lyden Walker, Co-Founder and CEO of NAMEPA. “His extensive background lends itself to our interest in what industry needs to know about future challenges and consequences in marine operations.” 

The NAMEPA event will feature discussions on challenges and consequences on Regulatory, Future Fuels, Digitalization, Workforce Development and Maritime Security. Additionally, there will be updates on activities in Houston benefiting the greater maritime community.
