NAMEPA’s Annual Marine Environment Protection Conference and Awards Dinner: Maritime’s Pathway to 2050 Begins Now

July 18, 2023: Carleen Lyden Walker, Co-Founder and CEO, announced that registration is open for the North American Marine Environment Protection Association’s (NAMEPA) Annual Marine Environment Protection Conference and Awards Event being held at SUNY Maritime College on November 2, 2023. As shipping wrestles with the pathway forward to meet the recently set MEPC 80 goals, the time to begin these conversations is now. The event is set to bring together industry experts, innovators, thought leaders, and students providing a platform for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and recognition of outstanding achievements.

“We can all agree that everyone has a role and responsibility to meet the targets set at MEPC80. I think we can also agree that given shipping’s role as the “engine of global trade” identifying the balance between commerce and conservation is an imperative,” observed Ms. Walker. “As a community, it is important to discuss and dissect, as well as harmonize, the many pathways forward.”

The afternoon conference will be followed by NAMEPA’s Annual Marine Environment Protection Awards (MEP Awards) Dinner recognizing the achievements of industry leaders, companies, organizations, and government agencies in their efforts to “Save Our Seas.” The MEP Awards are given in recognition of an individual or organization’s innovative and extraordinary effort to commit themselves to preserving the marine environment as exemplified by a commitment to programs which have specific objectives set for environmental performance and improvement. Additionally, there will be a student poster contest creatively depicting the history and importance of protecting the planet and the ocean from the impact of shipping recognizing the importance of MARPOL Convention (International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships). The theme reflects the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) 2023 World Maritime Day Theme.
