3rd Annual World Ocean Day Cleanup with Fairfield Chemical Carriers

Norwalk, Connecticut – The North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) is pleased to report its successful collaboration with industry leader, Fairfield Chemical Carriers for the third consecutive year, as they co-hosted a local community cleanup event in commemoration of World Ocean Day. This impactful initiative aimed to raise awareness about marine pollution and the critical need to safeguard our waterways.

Participants gathered in Norwalk, Connecticut, where dedicated volunteers from Fairfield Chemical Carriers and NAMEPA worked together to remove marine debris along the shoreline. Engaging in insightful discussions, volunteers emphasized the significance of preserving our oceans and the vital role that cleanup efforts play in the overarching mission to “Save Our Seas.” The collective dedication and hard work demonstrated the unwavering commitment of NAMEPA’s corporate members, who continue to lead the maritime industry in protecting our marine environment.

The United Nations declared June 8th as World Ocean Day in 2008, highlighting the intrinsic connection between humanity and the ocean, and emphasizing the responsibility we share in its preservation. This year’s theme, “Planet Ocean: tides are changing,” underscored the significance of community-driven ideas and solutions in safeguarding and rejuvenating our oceans from decision-makers, indigenous leaders, scientists, private sectors, civil society, and youth activists to put the ocean first. Aligned with the United Nations’ Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030), these discussions serve as a cornerstone for preserving and protecting our marine environment.
