HOUSTON, February 2- NAMEPA (North American Marine Environment Protection Association) announced that it will be holding its annual Marine Operations Seminar as a hybrid event with both in-person and virtual participation available. The Houston Pilots Association will host the event at their corporate headquarters in Deer Park on Thursday, February 24th beginning at 1:00CST.
The program revolves around decarbonization and digitalization with the discussion focusing on how to navigate the roadahead. After a welcome by the Houston Pilots’ Presiding Officer, Captain Robert Thompson, NAMEPA Chairman, Joe Hughes, will open the seminar to set the stage for RDML John Mauger, Assistant Commandant for Prevention Policy, USCG who will give a view from the regulatory standpoint with Fairfield Chemical Carriers presenting the shipowner perspective. Simon Mockler, Regional Director of Decarbonization, Maritime Americas for DNV, will moderate a panel discussion on strategies, from collective to short term and long term for the maritime industry to pave the way to decarbonization. Peter Lindsay of Purify Fuel will be advancing strategies for “under the curve” emissions and Blue-Sky Maritime Coalition’s David Cummins providing a review of their efforts towards decarbonization of the industry.
The digitalization highway is fast moving with technology ever changing as the global environment demands efficient and safe tools for ship management. This panel will discuss going on the offensive with digital tools from Cynthia Hudson, CEO, HudsonAnalytix and other digital benefits and risks.
The seminar will conclude with remarks from Captain Anuj Chopra, Co-Founder and CEO, ESG+ on WHY it is important to set the strategies to navigate to zero-emissions and master digitalization to meet goals and bring the maritime industry to a unified path forward.
