I once wrote an article entitled “Oceans: Earth’s Final Frontier” in which I cited the statistic that, despite covering 70% of the earth’s surface, only 5% of oceans have been explored by humans. It is no surprise then that so many people are fascinated by the oceans. As a fellow ocean lover, I understand why one may be enamored of the mysteries, the possibilities for exploration, the need for protection, and the ability to manipulate the ecosystem for use for human progress. The possibilities for working with the ocean are limitless.
NAMEPA is proud to be a supporter, along with 78 other global shipping companies and organizations, of the “Getting to Zero Coalition” organized by the Global Maritime Forum. The Ambition Statement calls on our industry community to progressively pursue ways to decarbonize to meet 2030 and 2050 goals for reducing emissions causing climate change. We join Cargill, Maersk, Euronav, Lloyd’s Register, ABS, RightShip and more to support initiatives to develop zero- emission vessels (ZEVs) and fuels. The program is being presented today at the United Nations as the world focuses on mitigating climate change.
Let’s work together to find a solution!
