NAMEPA Releases Marine Industry Learning Guide

Educating the Public on the Value of the Marine Industry

June 25, 2018 – The North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) is excited to announce that our newest educational resource, the Marine Industry Learning Guide, is now available for free download. This guide was created for anyone looking to educate others, whether in a formal or non-formal setting, on the importance of the marine industry in our everyday lives as we strive to bridge the gap between commerce and conservation. The activities provided in this comprehensive resource will aid in increasing awareness of the marine industry’s dedication to the health and safety of its crew, the environment and its fleet.

Ninety percent (90%) of consumer goods, including material goods, food, technologies, and energy sources are transported, in part, on a ship. Within this guide, both educators and students alike will be able to understand and appreciate the importance of the marine industry as it relates to shipping, regulations, transportation, exploration, and more.

Lessons include:

  • Role of ports
  • Navigation at sea
  • Ship buoyancy
  • Shipping and its role in global trade
  • Maritime regulations
  • Careers in the maritime industry
  • And more!

The guide is aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) objectives. To download this guide or other educational resources developed by NAMEPA please visit NAMEPA’s education webpage.
